National Chili Day Celebration

February 22, 2018

Join Slow Food Springfield for our 3rd ever gathering to celebrate National Chili Day! Believe it or not, Springfield is steeped in a rich history of chili making and we aim to bring this fascinating story to light for you. In addition to enjoying a chili dinner prepared by the students at LLCC Culinary Arts Institute, we have invited Bill Furry, Executive Director of the Illinois State Historical Society, who will weave his breadth of chili know-how with the tale of local author Les Eastep’s book, ‘Springfield Illinois: A Chilli History’ following the meal.

We will offer both a meat and vegetarian option plus corn bread, dessert and a beverage option of tea, coffee or water. Snail approved Jimmy Stick’s Pepper Products will be featured in the making of this chili. Jimmy Stick’s founder James Walsh will briefly co-present in the evening’s presentation.
