Shitake Mushroom Workshop
March 17, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Participants will watch demonstration of inoculation process and explanation, get a chance to participate in the sequence of drilling the log, then injecting shiitake spawn, ending with capping the injected hole with melted wax. Participants will leave with the knowledge of what materials, tools and steps are needed to successfully inoculate shiitake and other mushrooms that feed on logs.
Each participant will take home a 12” shiitake log which will be ready to bear fruit in late May and will continue for 3 to 4 years under proper conditions.
Hosts will provide resources such as contacts along with recommended books to use in setting up a home mushroom operation.
A walking farm tour will show shiitake, reishi, lion’s mane and oyster log beds.
Snacks and tea will be included, not a meal though.
Participants are encouraged to take pictures and videos.
Workshop hosted by Michael and Kathy Egan of Black Oak Woods.
